The West African Examinations Council, WAEC and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB have agreed on a one-time verification system for candidates’ West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE results as part of efforts to reduce costs and simplify admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Under the new arrangement, candidates seeking admission to institutions whose admissions are regulated by JAMB will verify their WAEC O’Level results once through JAMB.
The outcome of the verification will subsequently be made available to the tertiary institution where the candidate is seeking admission for screening, admission processing and other relevant administrative purposes.
WAEC and JAMB said candidates would not be required to pay tertiary institutions for a second verification of results already verified through the JAMB platform.
Candidates will pay a one-time verification fee of ₦4,000 through the designated JAMB Verification Service platform. The agencies clarified that the payment should not be made through the candidate’s institution of choice.
WAEC has also authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant tertiary institutions for admission screening and other approved purposes.
The agencies said the arrangement was designed to ensure that a successfully verified WASSCE O’Level result could be used for multiple admission-related purposes without requiring candidates to repeat the process.
They said the system would reduce the need for candidates to make repeated visits to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centres, as the verification process could be initiated from home or any internet-enabled location.
WAEC and JAMB urged candidates to use the JAMB-provided Verification Service to complete the process once, noting that the verified result would subsequently be available for relevant admission procedures.
