The West African Examinations Council, WAEC has formally addressed the delay experienced during the conduct of the English Language Paper 2 in the ongoing 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Council acknowledged the disruption and expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to candidates, schools, and parents nationwide.
The delay, which occurred on the day the English Language Paper 2 was scheduled, was attributed to WAEC’s stringent measures aimed at safeguarding the integrity and security of the examination process.
“While we successfully achieved our objective of preventing leakage of any paper, it inadvertently impacted the timeliness and seamless conduct of the examination,” the Council stated.
WAEC highlighted several contributing factors to the disruption, including logistical challenges, security concerns, and socio-cultural factors that affected the smooth execution of its operations.
To prevent a recurrence, the Council revealed that it is working closely with security agencies to enhance the planning and delivery of future examinations.
“We recognize the importance of the timely conduct of examinations and the impact of this delay. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused,” the statement read.
Despite the setbacks, WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards in examination administration and promoting academic excellence across the region.
