Chairman of the University of Lagos, UNILAG Sports Council, Professor Alabi Soneye, has expressed confidence in the University’s contingent as they gear up to compete at the 27th Nigerian University Games, NUGA, holding in Jos, Plateau State, from November 6 to 16, 2025.
Prof. Soneye commended the athletes for their dedication and commitment, urging them to uphold the University’s long-standing tradition of excellence, discipline, and sportsmanship.
“UNILAG has always been a powerhouse in university sports. We are confident our athletes will once again do us proud,” he stated.
A total of 90 athletes, coaches, and officials make up the UNILAG contingent, which will compete in ten sporting disciplines, including Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Football (Female), Judo, Karate, Table Tennis, Tennis, Scrabble, and Taekwondo.
The team departed Lagos in two batches on Wednesday, November 5, and Thursday, November 6, 2025, brimming with optimism and determination to bring home laurels.
UNILAG, which successfully hosted the 26th edition of NUGA in 2022, remains a dominant force in inter-university sports and is poised to replicate or even surpass its previous achievements.
The opening ceremony of NUGA 2025 is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the University of Jos, marking the beginning of ten days of sporting excellence and camaraderie among Nigeria’s top universities.
