Tinubu Hails Zenith Bank Founder Jim Ovia at 75

President Bola Tinubu has commended Zenith Bank founder, Jim Ovia, for his contributions to Nigeria’s banking industry, economic development and private-sector growth as the business leader marks his 75th birthday.

Tinubu described Ovia as a visionary entrepreneur and accomplished banker whose leadership and business achievements have significantly advanced Nigeria’s financial services sector.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said Ovia’s dedication, resilience and commitment to excellence had transformed Zenith Bank into a major financial institution and contributed to the growth of the Nigerian banking industry.

“Mr. Ovia’s dedication, resilience, and commitment to excellence have not only grown Zenith Bank into a banking behemoth but have also driven the growth of the Nigerian financial services sector,” Tinubu said.

The President highlighted Ovia’s pioneering role in establishing Zenith Bank in the 1990s and developing it into a leading financial institution with operations across Africa and Europe.

He said Ovia’s entrepreneurial journey demonstrated the importance of innovation, discipline, sound corporate governance and long-term investment in national development.

Tinubu also acknowledged the banking founder’s contributions to digital infrastructure, education, youth empowerment, philanthropy and human capital development, particularly through initiatives that provide opportunities for young Nigerians.

As Ovia celebrates the milestone, the President joined his family and friends in wishing him good health, renewed strength and many more years of productive service to Nigeria and humanity.
