A deadly confrontation between rival cult groups in Ogun State has resulted in the death of a man, believed to be a member of a local cult. The incident occurred late on the night of August 11, 2024, along Ijagun Road in Ijebu Ode.
According to reports, a concerned citizen alerted the police at around 11:40 p.m., informing them of an ongoing clash between suspected cultists. In response, the Divisional Police Officer swiftly dispatched a team to the scene.
Upon arrival, the Police discovered the lifeless body of a middle-aged man with multiple machete wounds and gunshot injuries. Disturbingly, the victim’s left hand had been severed and taken away. The deceased was later identified as “Mosquito,” a known member of the Aye confraternity.
Six expended cartridges were recovered from the scene while the body was transported to Ijebu Ode State Hospital, where the victim was pronounced dead and placed in the morgue.
The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident as authorities are working to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene and to understand the troubling pattern of mutilation linked to recent cult-related killings in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to bring those responsible to justice.
