Polaris Bank has hosted children of its employees to a day of fun, learning and workplace discovery as part of efforts to strengthen employee engagement and create meaningful experiences for staff and their families.
The “Bring Your Child to Work” programme, held in Lagos, welcomed children aged six years and above, giving them an opportunity to visit their parents’ workplace, meet colleagues and gain a better understanding of their parents’ professional roles.
The children, selected through an internal trivia draw for staff, participated in activities designed to promote learning, creativity, teamwork, interaction and curiosity.
A major highlight was a guided tour of the bank’s premises, including the banking hall and various departments. The tour exposed the children to the different functions that contribute to the operations of a financial institution and allowed them to interact with employees.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Polaris Bank, Kayode Lawal, represented by the Head of Human Resources, Olanrewaju Oyekunle, encouraged the children to make the most of the experience.
“At Polaris Bank, we believe that work is more than meetings and desks. It is about solving problems, helping people, making life easier, learning, and making a meaningful contribution. So, while you are here today, be curious, ask questions, learn, and most importantly, have fun,” he said.
Oyekunle added that the initiative was designed to help the children understand their parents’ professional lives while inspiring them to consider different career possibilities.
“Who knows? Perhaps one day, some of you will become bankers, entrepreneurs, doctors, engineers, technology experts, or even leaders of great organisations,” he said.
Another highlight of the programme was an interactive session facilitated by the Executive Director, Corporate & Investment Banking, Abimbola Ozomah, who introduced the children to the fundamentals of banking in a simple and engaging manner.
The children learnt about how banks operate, the importance of saving, responsible financial habits and the role of banks in helping individuals and businesses manage their finances.
The session also encouraged the children to ask questions, share their understanding and interact with one another, making the experience both educational and engaging.
For participating parents, the programme offered an opportunity to share an important part of their daily lives with their children while helping them appreciate the values of work, responsibility, collaboration and service.
The initiative further reinforced Polaris Bank’s focus on employee wellbeing and engagement, recognising the connection between employees’ professional and family lives.
