The Ogun State Police Command has issued a public warning following a recent increase in drowning incidents across the state, urging residents to exercise caution around rivers, streams, and swimming pools.
In a statement by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Command advised members of the public to avoid unsafe swimming practices and to remain vigilant when using water facilities.
The Command also directed hotel operators and managers of recreational facilities to ensure that all swimming pools are properly supervised, clearly marked, and staffed with trained lifeguards at all times. The Command further stressed that safety equipment must be readily available in all such facilities.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, avoidable loss of life is unacceptable, and all stakeholders must take responsibility for ensuring their own safety and that of others.
Ogunlowo urged the public to comply with safety guidelines and report any unsafe conditions at swimming facilities to the appropriate authorities.
