The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its intelligence-led security operations, rescuing an abducted victim in less than 24 hours, arresting 24 suspects and recovering firearms, ammunition, stolen vehicles and other valuables in a statewide crackdown.
The Command said the operations, carried out under Operation KOSAYE, also led to the recovery of four firearms, 11 live cartridges, two vehicles and a stolen motorcycle across different parts of the state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, said the most significant breakthrough was the rescue of a 29-year-old kidnap victim, Sotonwa Oluwameyowa, who was abducted along Ogere Road in Iperu-Remo on July 27.
According to the police, operatives, in collaboration with the So-Safe Corps and Amotekun, launched a coordinated search of nearby forests immediately after receiving the distress call, forcing the abductors to abandon the victim and flee.
The victim, who sustained injuries during the incident, was rescued within 24 hours and taken for medical treatment, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Command also announced the arrest of 17 suspected cultists during a raid on an alleged initiation ground at Ibogun Shomi on July 31.
A locally fabricated gun and an axe were recovered during the operation, while the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
In separate operations, police arrested a suspected rape and armed robbery suspect in Ofada after he allegedly attacked a woman at knifepoint and stole her phones and laptop.
Detectives also recovered a stolen Toyota Camry reported missing in Abeokuta and arrested a suspected motorcycle thief, recovering the stolen Bajaj motorcycle.
The Command further recovered a double-barrel gun and 10 live cartridges during an investigation into an assault case in Ajuwon, while another operation in Agbado led to the recovery of two locally made pistols and one live cartridge abandoned on a perimeter fence.
At Ewekoro, police foiled an attempted invasion of a cattle ranch, arrested two suspects and recovered a Ford bus allegedly used by the group.
The Command also arrested a burglary suspect in Obantoko with stolen industrial equipment, including an air-conditioning unit and generator sets, and apprehended a murder suspect in Atan-Ijebu over the killing of a 22-year-old man following a dispute.
CP Ojajuni commended officers for their swift response and professionalism, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven policing, strategic patrols and rapid response operations across Ogun State.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to protect lives and property.
