The Ogun State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC members and youth development through strengthened collaboration with the scheme.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, gave the assurance while receiving the Ogun State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Adewuyi Omolabake Frances, and members of her management team on a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The visit focused on deepening the longstanding partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the NYSC, with emphasis on corps members’ security, intelligence sharing and community-oriented policing.
Mrs. Adewuyi commended the Police Command for its sustained support for corps members posted to police formations and its proactive measures in safeguarding them across the state.
She also praised the Command’s commitment to the welfare and mentorship of corps members, pledging the NYSC’s continued cooperation in promoting security and maintaining peace in Ogun State.
Responding, CP Ojajuni reiterated that protecting lives and property remains the Command’s foremost responsibility, assuring that corps members and other residents would continue to enjoy adequate security.
Drawing from his own NYSC experience, the police commissioner encouraged corps members to use the service year to build leadership, resilience and character, while warning them against involvement in crime, cultism and other unlawful activities.
He also introduced the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), describing it as a community-based initiative aimed at preventing youth involvement in cultism, drug abuse and other social vices through advocacy and value reorientation.
The commissioner disclosed plans for a statewide POCACOV sensitisation campaign to expand youth engagement across educational institutions and communities in Ogun State.
CP Ojajuni further urged the NYSC management to sustain discipline and effective supervision of corps members to promote responsible citizenship.
He also recalled the Command’s recent rescue of 18 stranded corps members along the Ogbere-Ijebu Ode axis after their vehicle broke down at night, saying the operation demonstrated the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting everyone within Ogun State.
