Dangote Industries Limited and Sinoma International Engineering Co. Ltd. have signed an $800 million agreement to expand the Dangote Cement Plant in Itori, Ogun State, doubling its production capacity from six million to 12 million metric tonnes per annum.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by Dangote Group President, Aliko Dangote, and Sinoma Chairman, Lin Zhong, is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s position as a major cement production and export hub in Africa.
The expansion will increase the plant’s output to meet rising domestic demand while boosting exports to regional and international markets, generating foreign exchange and supporting economic growth.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dangote described the project as a major milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy and its commitment to Nigeria’s industrialisation.
He attributed the investment to the Federal Government’s renewed emphasis on concrete road construction and the company’s ambition to expand cement exports across Africa under its Vision 2030 strategy of producing between 90 million and 100 million metric tonnes annually.
According to him, the expanded facility will enhance Dangote Cement’s export capacity, create jobs, generate foreign exchange earnings and deepen Nigeria’s manufacturing base.
Dangote also commended President Bola Tinubu for creating an enabling business environment, saying the policy direction has encouraged further private sector investment.
He noted that the partnership with Sinoma has delivered several world-class cement plants over the years, expressing confidence that the latest investment reflects growing faith in Nigeria’s economic prospects.
On his part, Sinoma Chairman Lin Zhong said the agreement marks another milestone in the longstanding partnership between both companies.
He said Sinoma would deploy its engineering expertise and advanced technology to deliver the project, adding that the expansion would improve Dangote Cement’s competitiveness while strengthening Nigeria’s position as a strategic manufacturing and export hub for Africa.
Lin added that the investment demonstrates increasing international confidence in Nigeria’s industrial sector and highlights the importance of strategic partnerships in driving infrastructure development, industrialisation and economic growth across the continent.
Upon completion, the expanded Itori facility is expected to become one of Africa’s major cement production and export centres, supporting both domestic supply and regional trade.
