The Ogun State Police Command has moved to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve the welfare of its personnel following an official working visit by the pioneer Director of Force Medical Services, AIG Nkechi Eze, BDS, MPH, fspsp, to the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
Eze, who led her team on the visit, inspected police health facilities and infrastructure across the state to identify areas requiring urgent upgrade and support, as part of efforts to align medical operations in Ogun with the Nigeria Police Force’s newly elevated healthcare structure.
Received by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, the visit also provided an opportunity to discuss initiatives aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of police personnel.
Speaking during the visit, Eze said the Directorate was committed to improving healthcare delivery across the Force, urging officers to take greater responsibility for their health through preventive medical checks.
She highlighted the “Know Your Numbers” campaign, which encourages personnel to regularly monitor their blood pressure, blood glucose and other vital health indicators to enable early detection and management of preventable health conditions.
The AIG also stressed the importance of personnel registering for compulsory health insurance schemes, noting that access to healthcare is particularly important for officers whose duties often expose them to demanding operational conditions.
Responding, CP Ojajuni expressed appreciation to the visiting AIG and commended the Force Medical Services for its contribution to the Command’s operational effectiveness.
The Commissioner specifically acknowledged the role of medical personnel during field operations, citing Operation Kọ̀saye as an example of situations where medical support remains critical to the safety and effectiveness of police operations.
Ojajuni also highlighted the Command’s decision to open its medical facilities to members of the public as an important corporate social responsibility initiative, noting that improved access to healthcare can strengthen trust and relations between the Police and the communities they serve.
The engagement underscores the growing focus on police healthcare as a critical component of operational readiness, personnel welfare and effective community policing in Ogun State.
