The Ogun State Police Command has intensified enforcement of its “Operation No Traffic Gridlock” across the state, warning motorists, traders, and transport operators against activities that obstruct free flow of traffic.
The command said persistent gridlock in key areas such as Sango Ota and Sagamu is largely caused by improper parking and roadside trading, describing the situation as unacceptable.
According to the police, offenders engaging in illegal parking, double parking, indiscriminate stopping on roadways, loading and offloading passengers on active lanes, and displaying goods on roads and walkways will face strict enforcement measures.
The command noted that the operation is already in full swing, with personnel from the State Motor Traffic Department, Area Traffic Offices, and Divisional Traffic Units deployed to strategic locations to ensure compliance and ease vehicular movement.
Residents and road users in Sango Ota, Sagamu, Mowe, Ifo, and other parts of the state have been urged to adhere strictly to traffic regulations. Motorists were advised to use only designated parking areas when picking up or dropping passengers, while traders were directed to confine their activities to approved market spaces.
The police also acknowledged ongoing road construction projects in Sango Ota and Sagamu, stating that while the development may contribute to temporary congestion, compliance with traffic rules would significantly reduce the impact.
It noted that previous traffic congestion in Mowe and Ifo had been successfully cleared and would be sustained through continuous monitoring and enforcement.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has directed full enforcement of the operation, warning that violators will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring safety, order, and smooth movement across the state, while urging residents to support ongoing efforts to eliminate traffic gridlock.
