Ogun State Police Command has officially flagged off the grassroots activities of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, POCACOV as part of efforts to institutionalise non-kinetic crime prevention, tackle youth vulnerability and curb cultism and other social vices across the state.
The initiative aligns with the preventive policing mandate of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, through the POCACOV advocacy and sensitisation campaign.
The formal launch followed a high-level executive briefing at the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta, where the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, hosted the POCACOV leadership delegation led by the State Coordinator, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, and the State Chairman, Aare Olayinka Aturamu.
During the meeting, the delegation presented the campaign’s operational framework, achievements and roadmap for statewide sensitisation programmes.
The police commissioner was also briefed on POCACOV’s non-kinetic policing strategy, which focuses on public enlightenment, behavioural change and youth mentorship as proactive measures to prevent crime rather than relying solely on enforcement.
Ojajuni commended the POCACOV team for its dedication and achievements, describing the initiative as an important component of the Command’s preventive policing strategy.
He urged members of the team to intensify their advocacy and grassroots engagement to achieve greater impact in promoting public safety and reducing crime across Ogun State.
“The sky is just the starting point,” the commissioner said while encouraging the team to expand the campaign’s reach and sustain its efforts at keeping young people away from cultism and other criminal activities.
