The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed reports linking a recent security incident at a private dredging site in Magbon Etido, Mowe, to banditry, describing the attack as an isolated criminal act.
The Command said preliminary investigations have not established any connection between the incident and bandit activities, contrary to claims circulating in some quarters.
According to the police, the attack resulted in the death of a soldier who was on security duty at the site, while another soldier sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Following the incident, security operatives comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the military swiftly responded to the area and launched coordinated operations aimed at tracking down and apprehending those responsible.
In a statement, the Command assured residents that the situation remains under control and that security has been reinforced in and around the affected community to prevent any further threat to lives and property.
“The security incident recorded at a private dredging site in Magbon Etido, Mowe, was an isolated criminal attack and not a bandit operation as being speculated in some quarters,” the statement noted.
The police further disclosed that investigations and tactical operations are ongoing to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
While expressing condolences over the death of the fallen soldier, the Command reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.
The Ogun State Police Command urged members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist ongoing investigations.
Residents were also assured that there is no cause for alarm as security agencies remain vigilant and fully prepared to respond to any threat to public safety.
