Operatives of the Mowe Division of the Ogun State Police Command have dismantled an alleged illegal ‘baby factory’ in Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children and arresting six suspects.
The operation, conducted on August 24, 2026, followed sustained intelligence gathering by the police over alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility.
The suspects arrested were Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.
Police operatives stormed the facility located on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, at about 8:00 a.m., where they rescued two pregnant women identified as Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who was seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who was eight months pregnant.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the location.
In a follow-up operation, the police traced the investigation to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another victim, Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had given birth to a baby boy on August 20.
According to the police, while Effiong was receiving medical treatment, the whereabouts of her newborn could not be accounted for, leading to the arrest of the attending nurse to assist investigators in locating the missing infant.
The case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation into the activities of the alleged syndicate, recovery of the missing newborn and prosecution of suspects found culpable.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Mowe Division operatives for their prompt response and operational efficiency.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime across the state, while urging residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and credible information.
