The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old security guard, Abraham Aneka, over allegations of defilement, criminal intimidation and attempted robbery involving a 16-year-old girl in the Abule-Ijoko area of the state.
The suspect was apprehended by detectives attached to the Agbado Division following what the police described as a swift intelligence-led operation that also led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel firearm allegedly used to threaten the victim.
According to the Command, the incident was reported in the early hours of June 10, 2026, by a family member of the teenager. The complainant alleged that the victim was accosted on the night of June 9 while returning home and was allegedly threatened with a firearm before being forcibly taken to the suspect’s residence in Abule-Ijoko.
Police said detectives immediately launched a coordinated operation upon receiving the report, leading to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the firearm allegedly used during the incident. Investigators also visited the scene as part of ongoing inquiries.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor without her consent and attempted to dispossess her of her belongings. The victim was subsequently taken for medical examination and treatment.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation, while the suspect remains in custody pending the conclusion of the probe and possible prosecution.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance policy on sexual and gender-based violence, particularly offences involving minors.
He assured residents that the Command would pursue diligent investigation and prosecution of the case in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner also urged parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of abuse, violence or suspicious activities to the nearest police formation, assuring that all reports would be treated with urgency and professionalism.
