NCC Urges Staff to Improve Response, Accountability in Customer Service

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC has urged its staff to strengthen responsiveness, accountability and professionalism in dealing with consumers, industry operators and other stakeholders.

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Dr Aminu Maida, made the call while marking the 2026 Customer Service Week at the NCC headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking on the theme, “Going the Extra Mile,” Maida said customer service should remain central to the Commission’s regulatory mandate, with its policies, decisions and interventions ultimately aimed at improving stakeholder experience and supporting the development of Nigeria’s communications sector.

He said going the extra mile involved listening carefully, responding promptly, explaining decisions clearly and taking responsibility for issues until they were properly addressed.

According to him, the growing reliance on digital services has increased expectations for efficiency, transparency and responsiveness, making professionalism and empathy essential to effective service delivery.

Maida said technology and systems could support service delivery, but the quality of interaction with stakeholders remained dependent on the judgment, empathy and professionalism of staff.

He commended NCC employees handling consumer complaints, engaging licensees, supporting regulatory processes, managing communications and providing internal services, noting that their contributions affected both the Commission and stakeholders who depend on its services.

The NCC chief also stressed the importance of internal service, saying effective cooperation among departments directly influences the quality of service provided to the public.

He urged staff to share information promptly, respond to colleagues and work more effectively across departments to improve the Commission’s overall performance.

Maida also acknowledged the role of consumers, industry partners and other stakeholders in improving the Commission’s services, saying their feedback could help identify areas requiring attention.

He challenged staff to identify specific service gaps in their daily operations, including delays, unnecessarily difficult processes and recurring complaints, and address their underlying causes.

He urged employees to treat stakeholders with courtesy and respect, uphold integrity and take ownership of their responsibilities, saying these practices would strengthen public trust and confidence in the Commission.

Maida called on staff to carry the spirit of “Going the Extra Mile” beyond Customer Service Week and make service excellence a continuous part
