The National Association of Maritime Transport Operators, NAMTOP has announced the resolution of its leadership crisis, stating that the challenges that affected the association over the past two years have been amicably settled.
In a statement issued to stakeholders, the association said the development marks a new phase of unity for the body, which serves as the umbrella organisation representing about 20 unions and associations in Nigeria’s maritime transport industry.
NAMTOP reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its role as the collective voice of truck owners and transport operators across the country, with a renewed focus on advocating for the welfare of its members and the development of the maritime transport sector.
As part of the reconciliation process, the Lagos State Trucks and Cargo Operators’ Committee, LASTCOC, which derives its mandate from NAMTOP, has invited all 20 affiliate groups under the association to a congress where it will present a report of its stewardship.
The congress is scheduled to hold on April 20, 2026, at Rickview Hotel in Apapa, Lagos.
Pending the formal inauguration of the reunited body, NAMTOP also announced a set of interim representatives who will act as signatories to official correspondences and coordinate activities within the association.
The nominated representatives include Adeyinka Aroyewun of the Council of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations (COMTUA), Lookman Shittu of the General Cargo group, Moshood Adisa of the Lagos Logistics Practitioners Association of Nigeria(LPAN), Wale Oladeinde of the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and Issa Babatunde of the Container Truck Owners Association of Nigeria (COTOAN).
The association said the interim arrangement is aimed at ensuring seamless communication and coordination as NAMTOP prepares for the formal inauguration of its reunited leadership.
NAMTOP also notified government agencies, regulators and industry stakeholders of the development, expressing readiness to contribute meaningfully to the growth and efficiency of Nigeria’s maritime transport sector.
