The Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency, LNSA has deployed drone Technology and GPS Tracking among other innovative measures to enhance its operations and solidify its contributions to the safety of lives and property in the State.
General Manager of LNSA, Dr. Ifalade Oyekan revealed this while speaking during an Interactive Session with the Media with the theme: “The Role of Technology in Community Policing: Creating New Perspectives” at the Safety Arena Conference Hall, Bolade Oshodi.
Dr. Ifalade who explained that the technological measures are operational in all of the Agency’s Units across the five divisions of Lagos, said these measures are not only to limit harassment against its personnel and cover hard-to-reach areas but to also set the groundwork for the creation of state police which has sparked conversations nationwide.
” This event is one of the ways to make people understand what Governor Babajide Samwo-olu is doing in Lagos. So many people speak about security without understanding it, that is why we called this round table to example to the people and show you around our security architecture.
So that people will know where we are going and where we are coming from. As an agency that doesn’t use firearms, we are on the path to using technology to safeguard life and property.
We are focusing on deploying technology on Lagos waterways to curb kidnapping and human trafficking which is prevalent in those areas.
As we sit in our control room we can monitor our officers from point A to point B to ensure value for money.” He said.
Dr. Oyekan hinted at the establishment of a Marine Unit to monitor and ensure safety in the creeks and riverine communities while advocating the creation of a safety academy that will equip security personnel with the knowledge and skills to ensure community safety.
Earlier, Lagos House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Information, Strategy and Security, Stephen Ogundipe commended the Agency for its strides and also for keeping the media abreast of its activities, assuring the Agency of the Lawmakers’ support to ensure efficient service delivery.
” I am here to charge and encourage you to continue your good work, we are working hard to make sure that all the states conform to the issue of state Police as is an idea of the president, we are all working towards having a secured community through adequate policing.
Lagos State Assembly seriously supports the agency and it’s doing its best to provide all it needs to work because Lagos is a very progressive state and we have been clamoring for zero tolerance for crime and criminality, we work hand in hand towards achieving that.
The General Manager is not just passionate about the job but he is also a prince here in Lagos and we can see all the effort he has been putting into it.
We will look out for more from this agency and whatever assistance they need will be made available by the speaker honorable Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.” He concluded.
