The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, has appealed to staff members to end their ongoing industrial action and return to work on Monday, August 11, 2025.
In an open letter to staff, Olatunji-Bello acknowledged the reasons behind the strike but urged acceptance of the Lagos State Government’s recent offers, describing them as part of the realities of negotiation.
“The longer we remain apart from our students and our work, the greater the ripple effect on our community, our young people, our reputation, and the very progress we have made together,” she said.
Since assuming office in September 2021, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted several welfare milestones achieved in collaboration with the Joint Action Committee, including prompt promotions, a 100% Christmas bonus for all staff, full payment of Earned Academic Allowances, priority employment and admission opportunities for staff family members and the recent implementation of the Federal Government-approved 25%/35% salary increase.
She urged staff to see themselves not as adversaries but as partners working towards the same vision for LASU, adding: “Please trust me when I say: I am for you, and will continue to work for your best interest.”
The strike has brought academic and administrative activities at LASU to a halt for the past two weeks.
