The Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University, LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM has received the Accreditation Team from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NMCN as part of their official visit for the accreditation of the University’s Nursing and Midwifery programme.
The team, led by Professor Regina E. Ella, on their arrival, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor at the Senate Chamber, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
In her welcome address, Professor Olatunji-Bello, warmly received the delegation, expressing her appreciation for their visit and describing it as a crucial step towards safeguarding the quality, integrity, and global competitiveness of the University’s Nursing and Midwifery programme. She reaffirmed the University’s unwavering commitment to upholding world-class teaching standards and producing graduates capable of excelling globally.
The Vice-Chancellor further highlighted the institution’s readiness for the accreditation exercise, citing the availability of modern teaching facilities, a comprehensive collection of electronic resources, and a blended learning environment designed to meet students’ needs. She expressed confidence in a successful accreditation outcome and assured the team of the University’s full cooperation throughout their assignment.
Responding, Professor Regina E. Ella expressed the team’s anticipation for a productive engagement. The courtesy visit concluded with Professor Olatunji-Bello formally handing over the NMCN team to the Provost of the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Professor Olufemi Idowu.
At the exit meeting held on Wednesday, 16th April 2025, Professor Regina E. Ella commended the University for the warm reception accorded the team by both the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) Ikeja, Lagos since their arrival.
Professor Ella described Lagos State University as being very close to attaining greater heights in its Nursing and Midwifery programme, lauding the Vice-Chancellor for her visionary leadership, and steering the institution to remarkable heights.
However, Professor Ella noted the need for improvement in some areas, particularly in the recruitment of additional staff to enhance operational efficiency within the programme.
Responding, Professor Olatunji-Bello appreciated the team for their observations and assured them that all concerns raised would be urgently addressed by the university management.
The Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu delivered the vote of thanks, expressing the University’s gratitude to the accreditation team for their professionalism and constructive feedback.
Present at the visit were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Afisi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adenike Boyo, Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu, Bursar, Mr Said Babatunde Olayinka FCA, represented by Deputy Bursar, Mr Bisi Yusuf; and University Librarian, Dr Omawumi Makinde. Other members of the accreditation team, members of the Academic Planning Unit, and other key representatives from Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja, and the Vice-Chancellor’s Office were in attendance.
