The Lagos State Government has illuminated public buildings and strategic locations in Alausa in purple as part of activities marking the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month.
The “Turn Alausa Purple” campaign, led by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), is aimed at drawing public attention to domestic and sexual violence and encouraging residents and institutions to take action against abuse.
The Head of Service, Bode Agoro, joined the DSVA to champion the campaign, stressing that the fight against domestic and sexual violence requires the involvement of individuals and institutions beyond government agencies.
“Turning Alausa purple is more than illuminating our offices and public spaces. It is a statement that we recognise the problem, we care about those affected and we are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels safe and protected,” Agoro said.
He urged public servants to see themselves as stakeholders in preventing domestic and sexual violence by speaking up, supporting survivors and directing people in need to appropriate support services.
Agoro said the purple displays across Alausa would serve as a reminder to workers, visitors and residents that preventing domestic and sexual violence is a collective responsibility.
The Executive Secretary of the DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the campaign was designed to go beyond the physical transformation of the environment by stimulating conversations and encouraging action.
“We want the purple in Alausa to be more than a colour. We want it to remind everyone who sees it that domestic and sexual violence is real, it affects people around us, and we all have a role to play in preventing it,” she said.
Vivour-Adeniyi urged public servants experiencing violence, as well as people who witness or suspect abuse, to speak up and seek appropriate support, stressing that survivors should not be left to face their experiences alone.
She also called on private organisations, the media, schools, communities and other stakeholders to support the campaign by sharing accurate information on prevention, reporting channels and available support services.
The campaign forms part of wider activities organised by the Lagos State Government for the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, with the DSVA continuing its work on prevention, survivor support, access to justice and stronger systems for responding to violence.
The initiative is intended to strengthen public awareness and encourage collective action towards safer homes, workplaces and communities across Lagos.
