The Lagos State Local Government Service Commission has clarified that the processing of retirement benefits for former local government administrator, Mr. Michael Odesanya, has not been stalled by the non-constitution of the Commission.
The clarification followed a report published by The PUNCH on Sunday, August 9, 2026, titled, “I became executive beggar despite serving Lagos for 30 years – Ex-administrator.”
The Commission said it had obtained approval from the Head of Service to continue processing retirement cases pending the assumption of office of the newly nominated members of the Commission.
It explained that in Odesanya’s case, the necessary administrative processes had commenced, but his bank statement and Pension Fund Administrator (PFA) statement of account, which are required to complete the process, remain outstanding.
According to the Commission, Odesanya had been informed of the requirement and applicable procedure but had yet to personally obtain and submit the outstanding documents.
It therefore attributed the delay in concluding his retirement benefits to the non-submission of the required documents and not to the absence of members of the Commission.
The Commission said retirement files of other officers had continued to be processed under the approval granted by the Head of Service, pending the assumption of duty of the newly nominated members.
It assured retirees of its commitment to their welfare and pledged to explore every legitimate means to ensure that outstanding retirement matters are concluded promptly.
The Commission further assured Odesanya that once the outstanding documents are obtained and submitted, it would continue the processing of his retirement benefits in line with established procedures.
It also appreciated The PUNCH for its interest in issues affecting retirees and called for the administrative facts surrounding the case to be reflected in the interest of fairness, balance and accurate public information.
