Lagos State Police Command has joined celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of women in the Nigeria Police Force with a series of activities honouring pioneering female officers and empowering young girls across the state.
As part of the commemorative events, a delegation of senior female officers led by ACP Mary Ayim, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Administration), paid courtesy visits to two trailblazing retired Deputy Inspectors General of Police.
The team visited retired DIG Florence Adebanjo, who began her career as a recruit and rose to become a Cadet Inspector and the first female Commissioner of Police in Western Port, Lagos. They also honoured retired DIG Cecilia Adebisi Ugowe, a Cadet Inspector who broke barriers as the first female Force Secretary.
The command said the visits were aimed at celebrating the contributions of women who paved the way for gender inclusion and leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.
As part of the anniversary programme, the female officers also visited Onike Girls Junior High School, Sabo, Yaba, where they held an interactive outreach session focusing on self-awareness, mental health, career development, gender-based violence, and confidence building. Gifts were presented to students and teachers.
