The Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Abeokuta, and the Nigeria Police Force have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration to improve security within the hospital following rising concerns over theft, vandalism and attacks on healthcare workers.
The renewed partnership was underscored during a courtesy visit by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Kemta Division, CSP Quadril R.O., and members of his management team to the hospital.
Speaking during the visit, CSP Quadril said closer collaboration between the Police and FMC Abeokuta was essential to protecting lives and property while creating a safe environment for patients, healthcare workers and visitors.
He described both institutions as partners committed to supporting effective healthcare delivery through improved security.
Responding, the Medical Director of FMC Abeokuta, Dr. Titilola Sarah Ibiyemi, appreciated the Police for the visit and commended the cordial relationship between the hospital and the Kemta Police Division.
She, however, expressed concern over the recent increase in theft and vandalism within the facility, calling for stronger security measures to address the trend.
The Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Olusola Adebisi, said repeated theft incidents had become a major concern, citing the vandalisation of an air-conditioning unit near the hospital’s Police post as evidence of the growing security challenge.
He appealed for increased surveillance and prompt investigation to bring perpetrators to justice.
Also speaking, the Director of Administration, Mr. E.K. Apanisile, called for more frequent police patrols, particularly at night, and urged the Police to intensify efforts to curb assaults on healthcare workers by patients and their relatives.
In response, CSP Quadril assured the hospital of prompt responses to distress calls, increased patrols, enhanced intelligence sharing and stronger collaboration to improve security around the facility.
