The race for the coveted MasterChef Nigeria title intensified as contestant Fads emerged winner of the White Apron Day challenge, delivering two Afro-Italian dishes that earned her the coveted Dish of the Day title and an Ooni pizza oven.
Although the White Apron challenge did not feature an elimination, contestants were tasked with combining Italian classics with distinctly Nigerian flavours to produce two dishes—a pizza and a pasta—in just 90 minutes.
The challenge tested the home cooks’ creativity, technical ability and time management as they sought to demonstrate that Nigerian ingredients could successfully reinvent iconic Italian cuisine.
Pizza dominated discussions in the kitchen, with judges debating their preferred styles. While Chef Stone advocated for a thick, hearty pizza base, Chef Eros favoured a thin and crispy crust, reminding contestants that regardless of toppings, the success of any pizza begins with a well-made dough.
The pasta challenge required contestants to go beyond simply infusing Nigerian flavours, with the judges expecting refined techniques, balanced flavours and restaurant-quality presentation.
The episode was not without drama as the kitchen witnessed two separate fire incidents. Isabella encountered problems with the pizza oven, while Favy battled flames at her cooking station before Chef Stone stepped in to help restore order.
Tension also rose during judging when Chef Eros removed his trademark glasses—a gesture contestants have come to associate with disappointment over a dish.
David and Isabella both faced criticism after their presentations failed to impress the judge.
Favy also suffered a setback after serving undercooked mussels with her pasta, a mistake that could have proved costly on an elimination day. However, despite the flaw, the judges praised the overall flavour profile of her dish.
The standout performance of the day came from Fads, whose pizza and pasta received glowing reviews from the judges.
Her dishes were described as restaurant-ready, elegant, refined and beautifully executed, with Chef Eros applauding her performance and affectionately nicknaming her “Fabulous Fads.”
Her victory earned her the Dish of the Day title, an Ooni pizza oven and valuable momentum heading into the closing stages of the competition.
While all contestants survived the White Apron challenge, the stakes are set to rise dramatically next week as the remaining four contestants don black aprons for the first elimination challenge of the final stage.
With only three places available in the grand finale, one contestant will leave the competition as the remaining home cooks battle for a place in the Top Three and the ₦73 million grand prize.
