The Director-General/CEO of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote has underscored the importance of birth registration and the National Identification Number (NIN) in shaping Nigeria’s digital identity and fostering national development.
Speaking at the launch of the Renewed Hope initiative, Coker-Odusote praised the collaborative efforts between NIMC and the National Population Commission (NPC) to advance digital birth registration. She noted that this initiative will be a significant milestone in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“The digitalization of birth and NIN registration is not just about individual benefits; it is a cornerstone for national development,” Coker-Odusote stated. “This process will enhance access to education, healthcare, and other social services for all Nigerians, particularly children under 16 years old.”
The Director-General/CEO emphasized that birth registration is both a fundamental right and an essential element of Nigeria’s development strategy. Coker-Odusote also called on civil society and international partners to support the initiative, ensuring its success across the country.
Coker-Odusote extended her gratitude to the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her unwavering support in advancing NIN and birth registration efforts.
She added that with this renewed focus on digital integration, NIMC aims to streamline the registration process and bolster Nigeria’s social and educational infrastructure.
