The management of Computer Village, Ikeja, has initiated a biometric registration and enumeration exercise to improve security, eliminate criminal activities, and strengthen investor trust in the market.
Iyaloja of Computer Village Market, Mrs. Abisola Azeez explained that the initiative is part of a larger rebranding strategy to tackle challenges such as phone theft, fraudulent technicians, and the sale of substandard products.
”The decision follows a recent security breach that prompted the Lagos State Task Force to propose a total shutdown of the market. However, market leaders intervened to protect legitimate businesses. Under the new regulations, only registered vendors with visible ID cards will be permitted to operate.
Approved street setups will be restricted to plastic chairs, display cases, and umbrellas, while wooden structures and open flames will be prohibited to minimize fire risks.”
Baba Oja, Adeniyi Olasoji acknowledged the market’s tarnished reputation and outlined enhanced security measures, including CCTV surveillance, emergency alert systems, and closer cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
Also, Executive Secretary of the Ikeja Market Board, Mr. Fidelis Ezeugwu, emphasized the market’s unified leadership comprising representatives from four major ethnic groups and the importance of updated data to align with global standards.
He said additional upgrades include: installation of walkie-talkies for improved communication, enhanced street lighting and CCTV cameras to monitor activity
“These improvements aim to position Computer Village as a world-class market, comparable to international hubs like Dubai and Singapore.”
Market leaders, including Prince Tony Nwakeze, Ralph Chibuzor, Ben Onuorah, Mr. Nofiu Akinsanya (Mr. Murphy), and Mr. Ikani Tony, endorsed the initiative as a critical step toward transforming Computer Village into a well-organized, globally competitive digital marketplace.
