Akinsulure Emerges First Runner-Up at 2025 Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition

Adeola Akinsulure, a Biology teacher at Omole Senior Grammar School, Lagos, has been named First Runner-Up at the 11th edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition, held on Friday in Lagos.

The event, hosted at Eko Hotel and Suites, received 2,010 entries from across Nigeria, with 1,725 meeting entry criteria and 173 advancing to the second phase.

Akinsulure is renowned for transforming her classroom into a dynamic STEM-focused learning environment. She founded SOAR, a mentorship initiative that connects students to global opportunities, and IGNITE EDD6, a programme introducing students to robotics, coding, and AI.

She also creates free digital learning content and advocates for gender equity through initiatives such as Confident Girls, Healthy Choices, and her book Glow Girls.

Beyond her students, Akinsulure supports fellow educators through professional networks like STEM Collaborators and the KIND Teachers Initiative, mentoring over 20,000 teachers nationally and internationally. She is also a Fulbright TEA scholar and mentor at the New York Academy of Sciences.

With this achievement, she joins the Maltina Teacher Hall of Fame, a recognition conferred by the Nigerian Breweries–Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund.
