The Federal Government of Nigeria has advanced a strategic partnership with China aimed at accelerating affordable housing delivery and addressing Nigeria’s growing housing deficit through innovative, technology-driven solutions.
The development follows a high-level technical study tour to Guangzhou led by Joseph Tegbe, Director-General and Global Liaison of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership. The delegation included the Managing Director of Family Homes Funds Limited, Abdul Mutallab Mukhtar, and Executive Director of Operations, Emeka Henry Inegbu.
Discussions during the visit focused on integrating modular and prefabricated housing technologies into Nigeria’s construction sector—an approach expected to lower building costs, reduce project timelines, and improve delivery quality at scale.
With Nigeria’s housing shortfall running into millions of units, the Federal Government is increasingly prioritising industrialised construction methods and international collaboration to drive sustainable housing solutions. The delegation also explored partnerships with engineering, procurement, and construction firms to strengthen execution capacity for large-scale social housing projects.
In addition, engagements were held with potential financing partners to mobilise long-term capital required to expand access to affordable housing, particularly for low- and middle-income earners.
The meetings were facilitated by Joerno Conceptions Limited and E-Link Group, with support from Zou Gang, Executive Deputy Director of the China-Africa Economic and Trade Enterprises Working Committee.
The initiative signals a broader shift toward results-oriented bilateral cooperation, combining technical expertise, funding, and policy alignment to deliver measurable outcomes. Officials say the partnership is expected to not only expand access to affordable homes but also stimulate job creation, strengthen local value chains, and improve urban resilience.
The move aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which identifies housing as a key driver of economic growth and social stability.
