The Executive Secretary/CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF, Ayo Ogunsan, has called for a stronger culture of ownership and maintenance of security assets among police officers.
This is as the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, paid a strategic visit to the agency’s headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.
The meeting, held on April 21, 2026, focused on strengthening collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the LSSTF, with particular emphasis on sustaining the value of investments in security infrastructure across Lagos State.
Speaking during the visit, Ogunsan commended the CP’s leadership style but raised concerns over what he described as a persistent lack of ownership culture among officers handling LSSTF-provided assets.
He noted that while significant resources have been committed to procuring operational tools such as patrol vehicles, communication gadgets, and tactical equipment, their durability depends largely on proper maintenance and accountability by users.
According to him, the absence of this culture leads to rapid depreciation of assets, reduced operational efficiency, and a decline in public trust.
Ogunsan proposed the creation of a dedicated Asset Monitoring Unit within the Lagos State Police Command to enforce maintenance standards, pledging to support the initiative with operational resources, including a vehicle, once established.
Responding, Tijani expressed appreciation for LSSTF’s sustained support to policing in Lagos and acknowledged longstanding challenges related to asset management within the Command.
He assured that steps were being taken to address the issue, including the planned establishment of a monitoring team to oversee the condition and usage of police equipment.
The CP stressed that Lagos, as a cosmopolitan state with a constantly evolving security landscape, requires proactive and adaptive policing strategies to stay ahead of emerging threats.
He also disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has introduced a new Violent Crime Response Unit, with Lagos already indicating readiness for its implementation, while seeking LSSTF’s support to ensure its success.
The visit, attended by senior police officers, ended with the presentation of a commemorative plaque by the CP to the LSSTF CEO, symbolising a renewed commitment to partnership, accountability, and improved security across Lagos State.
