The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to improving mobility across water, rail, and road networks as part of efforts to ease transportation challenges in the state.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Wale Musa, gave the reassurance while speaking at the opening of the three-day 2026 management retreat of Lagos Ferry Services, LAGFERRY focused on sustainable water transportation.
Musa who was represented by the Director of Transport Policy and Coordination, Aderounmu Agbomeji said the government is prioritising water transport to reduce road congestion, improve safety, and enhance connectivity across Lagos.
In his welcome remarks, the Managing Director of LAGFERRY, Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun, unveiled plans to introduce eco-friendly water taxi services and electric-powered boats to boost efficiency on the waterways.
Balogun revealed that the proposed Eco Water Taxi service will operate along the Lekki-Epe corridor, a move expected to ease traffic congestion in the axis.
According to him, The agency is also exploring expansion of cargo transportation across key water routes linking Lekki, Apapa, Ikorodu, Epe, and Badagry to reduce pressure on major roads.
Also speaking, Head of Operations at LAGFERRY, Amos Semasa, said the agency has expanded its services to 17 jetties and 27 routes, alongside intensified safety awareness campaigns to encourage greater adoption of water transport.
He acknowledged lingering concerns among some residents and waterways users, but assured that safety remains a top priority for LAGFERRY and the Lagos State Government.
