The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has rescued four children and two adults from two separate accidents in Lekki Phase 1 and Apapa, Lagos.
In the first incident, the Service received a distress call at about 2:31 p.m., prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters from the Oniru Fire Station to No. 1, Wole Olateju Crescent, Kingshisha, Lekki Phase 1, within the Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
Preliminary findings revealed that a Lexus RX 300 Jeep, with registration number GGE 750BM, allegedly lost control due to overspeeding and rammed into five male children aged between eight and 13 years who were standing at the gate of the residence.
Four of the children were rescued alive but sustained severe injuries. They were subsequently conveyed to a nearby hospital by sympathisers for urgent medical attention. One nine-year-old boy was, however, suspected to have died at the scene of the accident.
The vehicle involved was later evacuated by a private towing company and taken to the Maroko Police Station. Officers from the Maroko Police Division were present at the scene and have taken over investigations into the incident.
In a related development, firefighters from the Ajegunle Fire Station responded to another distress call at about 4:47 p.m. following a report of a broken-down fuel tanker opposite an Ecobank branch in Apapa.
Upon arrival, fire service personnel discovered that two adult men were trapped inside the tanker while carrying out repair work. The firefighters immediately commenced rescue operations and successfully extricated both victims alive.
The rescued men were handed over to medical responders and conveyed to a hospital for further treatment.
Controller General, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to rapid emergency response and urged residents to observe safety measures to prevent avoidable accidents.
