Gas Supply Maintenance Disrupt Power Supply in Lagos, Abuja, Four States

The Federal Government has attributed recent electricity supply disruptions in Lagos, Abuja, Ogun, Kwara and Oyo states to maintenance challenges, gas supply constraints and reduced hydroelectric generation, assuring consumers that efforts are underway to restore normal supply.

The Federal Ministry of Power said the affected areas had recently experienced improvements in electricity supply before the latest disruptions, which have inconvenienced households, businesses and public institutions.

In a statement, the ministry said preliminary assessments indicated that the outages were not caused by a major or systemic failure of the national grid.

It attributed the disruptions to operational and maintenance issues across parts of the power sector, declining gas supply to thermal power stations and reduced output from hydroelectric plants due to lower water inflows into reservoirs.

The ministry said these challenges were being addressed, adding that Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, was working with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) and electricity distribution companies to restore supply.

According to the ministry, Tegbe has engaged the relevant operators to resolve the operational constraints, accelerate ongoing maintenance and keep Nigerians informed of developments.

The ministry acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the disruptions, particularly for consumers who had begun to experience more stable electricity supply.

It reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the reliability and quality of electricity nationwide and said further updates would be provided as restoration efforts progress.
