NSCDC Lagos Trains Personnel on Pension, Financial Planning

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Lagos State Command, has partnered with the National Pension Commission, PenCom, Lagos Zonal Office, to sensitise its personnel on pension matters, financial intelligence and effective retirement planning.

The lecture, held on Monday, August 24, 2026, brought together management staff, Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Tactical Commanders and other personnel of the Lagos State Command.

Speaking at the event, the Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, fnarc, stressed the importance of equipping personnel with financial intelligence, pension knowledge and sound financial discipline to secure their future before and after retirement.

Keshinro explained that retirement planning involves developing a financial strategy to save, invest and build funds capable of supporting one’s lifestyle after active service.

He advised officers against sacrificing their future financial security for present gratification, urging them to delay gratification and make decisions that would guarantee sustainable income after retirement.

The Commandant also directed the Pension Unit of the Command to develop a schedule for taking the sensitisation programme to all personnel across the state through their respective Area Commands.

Representing the National Pension Commission, Lagos Zonal Office, its Team Lead, Mrs Sarah Joseph, delivered a presentation covering key aspects of pension management and retirement planning.

Joseph explained that the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) is a mandatory system overseen by PenCom, under which employees and employers make monthly contributions into a Retirement Savings Account (RSA).

She also addressed issues raised by officers concerning remittances, data capturing, Retirement Savings Accounts, transfers, pension reforms, gratuity, Group Life Assurance and annuity for life.

The lecture provided participants with practical knowledge on managing their finances and planning effectively for retirement, with officers given the opportunity to seek clarification on various pension-related issues.

Representatives of several Pension Fund Administrators, including Leadway, Access Arm, Parthian, Stanbic and Trust Fund Pensions, also attended the programme.
