The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended 89 vehicles and their drivers for violating regulations on vehicle registration plates as part of an ongoing enforcement exercise aimed at strengthening security and crime prevention across the state.
The operation was carried out in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, ordering the enforcement against vehicles operating without registration plates or with covered, altered or obscured number plates.
According to the command, coordinated operations were simultaneously conducted across Ogun State, leading to the interception of the offending vehicles.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said appropriate administrative and legal actions had been initiated against the offenders in accordance with existing laws, including prosecution where applicable.
Ojajuni explained that the exercise forms part of the command’s preventive policing strategy designed to improve vehicle traceability, strengthen intelligence gathering and deny criminals the anonymity often exploited in the commission of crimes.
He directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to sustain the enforcement across the state, stressing that motorists who fail to comply with vehicle registration requirements would continue to face sanctions.
The police commissioner urged vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles carry properly registered and visible number plates at all times, noting that compliance would enhance security and support effective law enforcement.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led and proactive policing, assuring residents that efforts would be sustained to safeguard lives and property across Ogun State.
Ojajuni also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information capable of preventing crime and facilitating prompt operational responses.
