The Lagos State Government has reassured residents that the state remains safe, secure and prepared to tackle any security threat, as the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF distributed bulletproof vests and ballistic helmets to police commanders across the state.
The security equipment was presented on Friday to all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Area Commanders and Tactical Squad Commanders in Lagos as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies and enhance public safety.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, said the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to sustaining a robust security architecture capable of responding effectively to emerging threats.
He stressed that Lagos remains one of the safest places in the country and warned criminal elements against viewing the state as a haven for unlawful activities.
“Lagos is safe, secure and battle-ready. Anyone with criminal intentions should know that Lagos is not a place where crime can thrive. Our security agencies are alert, equipped and prepared to protect residents and visitors alike,” Ogunsan said.
According to him, the protective gear was deliberately distributed to senior police officers to reinforce frontline leadership and ensure commanders are adequately equipped to lead security operations across their various jurisdictions.
He noted that the LSSTF has consistently supported security agencies in the state through the provision of operational tools, equipment and logistics, adding that the latest intervention is part of broader efforts to strengthen security institutions.
“We believe leadership is critical in security operations. When commanders are properly equipped, they are better positioned to motivate their officers and effectively coordinate responses to security challenges,” he said.
Ogunsan also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering commitment to security and the protection of lives and property in Lagos State.
He said the governor has continued to prioritise security by supporting initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and operational effectiveness of security personnel.
The LSSTF boss further expressed gratitude to Lagos residents whose support and contributions have enabled the Trust Fund to continue investing in security infrastructure and resources.
“Our mandate is to support all security agencies operating in Lagos. These interventions are made possible through the confidence and support of Lagosians who understand the importance of investing in security,” he added.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani, praised the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF for their sustained support to the police.
He described the donation as a major boost to the morale and operational readiness of officers across the command.
“To whom much is given, much is expected. With the tremendous support we continue to receive from the Lagos State Government and the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, we are fully prepared to deliver on our mandate of protecting lives and property,” the commissioner said.
Tijani assured residents that the command would continue to intensify efforts to combat crime and maintain law and order throughout the state.
The presentation of the bulletproof vests and helmets is expected to enhance the safety of officers engaged in frontline duties while further strengthening Lagos State’s security framework through strategic collaboration between government and law enforcement agencies.
