The Zone 2 Police Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, has announced the arrest of a 50-year-old Canada returnee, Olushola Ajayi Joshua, over his alleged involvement in a burglary and theft case involving properties valued at more than N150 million in Ikeja, Lagos.
Addressing journalists during a press briefing on Monday, Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, said the suspect was apprehended through a collaborative effort between the Nigeria Police Force and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL).
According to the AIG, the case originated from a petition dated July 11, 2025, submitted to the Zone 2 Headquarters by a complainant who reported that her residence on Sesayon Street in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), Ikeja, had been burgled.
The complainant alleged that unknown persons broke into the property and carted away household items and valuables worth over N150 million. She reportedly suspected Joshua, an accountant in her late father’s company, and six others due to their access to the residence.
Police investigations revealed that the complainant had entrusted Joshua with a spare key to the property in 2022 to enable him gain access to the apartment whenever necessary to address roof leakages and evacuate rainwater during the rainy season.
The burglary was discovered in July 2025 when the complainant visited the residence and found several valuables missing.
Following the report, detectives attached to the Zonal Servicom Team commenced investigations, leading to the arrest of six suspects who allegedly had access to the property. The suspects were subsequently charged to court.
However, investigators discovered that Joshua had left Nigeria for Canada in July 2025 and was declared wanted.
AIG Jimoh disclosed that the Zone 2 Command subsequently partnered with INTERPOL, which flagged the suspect’s passport to facilitate his arrest.
The breakthrough came on June 1, 2026, when INTERPOL operatives apprehended Joshua at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, shortly after his arrival in Nigeria.
He was later handed over to Zone 2 Headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The police chief described the arrest as evidence of the growing cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and INTERPOL in tracking fugitives across international borders.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring that criminal suspects do not evade justice, warning that there would be no safe haven for individuals involved in criminal activities, regardless of their location.
“This development should serve as a strong warning to criminal elements that they cannot escape justice by fleeing abroad,” the AIG said.
Police authorities said investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspect would be prosecuted if found culpable.
