Former Director General of the Nigerian Insurers Association, Yetunde Ilori, emerged as the cynosure of attention as the association honoured distinguished insurance professionals for their immense contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria’s insurance industry.

The colourful ceremony, held at the iconic Insurers House, celebrated 56 respected professionals who had served on the NIA Governing Council in different capacities over the years. However, special recognition was reserved for Ilori, whose groundbreaking achievements in the insurance sector earned her two landmark awards.

She was honoured as the first female Deputy Chairperson and the first female Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the association, milestones widely regarded as significant achievements in advancing women’s leadership within Nigeria’s insurance industry.

The recognition highlighted her years of dedicated service, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to strengthening the insurance sector during her tenure at the helm of the association.

Speaking after receiving the awards, Ilori expressed gratitude for the rare opportunity to serve the industry and dedicated the honours to those who believed in her and entrusted her with leadership responsibilities.

“I thank God for the rare privilege to serve,” she said, while dedicating the awards to colleagues and stakeholders who supported her journey in the insurance profession.

One of the emotional highlights of the occasion was the recognition of the Yetunde Ilori Hall, a multipurpose hall named in her honour within the Insurers House building. The gesture symbolised her enduring legacy and impact on the association and the broader insurance community.

Stakeholders at the event described the honour as a fitting tribute to a woman whose contributions helped shape the modern insurance landscape in Nigeria and paved the way for more women to aspire to leadership positions in the industry.

The event also drew commendation for its organisation, with Bola Odukale and her team praised for delivering a memorable and well-coordinated programme that celebrated excellence, service, and leadership in the insurance profession.

Tributes were equally paid to Kunle Ahmed, under whose chairmanship the association marked its 55th anniversary, as industry leaders reflected on the NIA’s growth and continued relevance in Nigeria’s financial services sector.

Beyond the awards and tributes, the ceremony served as a celebration of legacy, leadership, and the enduring contributions of professionals who have devoted decades to building and sustaining Nigeria’s insurance industry.
