Nigerians have been urged to take personal responsibility for their wellness by engaging in walking as a form of exercise and eating right as well as getting quality sleep.

This call was made by health stakeholders during a five-kilometre walk organised by the Waka Community International Foundation, Q-Life Family Clinic, and Health Emergency Initiative, HEI, to sensitize citizens on the benefits of walking and eating right.

Head of HEI, Paschal Achunine, who explained that this edition focused on health talk about Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, CPR, and First Aid, noted that walking is non-discriminatory on grounds of age, gender, level of physical fitness, or location.

Achunine also said walking helps prevent or manage various conditions including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, cancer, and type 2 diabetes, and also contributes to clearing the mind and boosting moods.

Representative of Q-Life, Olowojolu Yinka noted that the campaign is to ensure citizens align with the benefits of walking and eating right, said more people have keyed into the initiative, judging from the number of participants both physically and those walking remotely and in solidarity in over forty-six countries around the world.

Also speaking, Founder of Waka Community, Lawrence Mbah noted that walking clears the human mind, hence anyone who cares for their mental health should engage in walking as a form of exercise, both indoors and outdoors.

”Today’s walk is the second version in honour of Dr. Ade Alakija, a former medical director of Q-life Family Clinic. Dr Ade Alakija was also a pioneer member of the Waka Community International Foundation and was Chairman of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) as well as a member of the National Executive Council of the NCF.

Dr Alakija wore many caps during his lifetime. We made a promise to immortalize his name and we are delivering on that promise. We gave our
word and we are keeping our word.”

Mbah also commended partners and supporters for believing in the vision and their support in cash and kind and equally importantly, for coming out in good numbers.
