The West African Examinations Council, WAEC has released the results of the 2025 Second Series of the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates.
The examination was conducted across Nigeria from November 11 to December 17, 2025, while coordination and marking of scripts were held between January 14 and February 3, 2026, at seven venues in Lagos, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, Uyo, Jos and Kaduna. A total of 3,361 examiners participated in the marking exercise.
According to WAEC, 69,604 candidates registered for the examination, representing a 1.8 per cent increase compared to the 2024 entry figure of 68,342. Out of the number registered, 65,752 candidates sat for the examination at 370 centres nationwide.
The Council disclosed that 235 candidates with special needs participated in the examination, including three visually impaired candidates, 24 with impaired hearing and three albinos. WAEC said adequate provisions were made for all affected candidates.
Of the 65,752 candidates who sat for the examination, 32,005 were males, representing 48.68 per cent, while 33,747 were females, accounting for 51.32 per cent.
WAEC further stated that 61,943 candidates, representing 94.21 per cent, have had their results fully processed and released. However, 3,809 candidates, about 5.79 per cent, still have some of their subjects being processed due to errors traceable to them. The Council assured that efforts are ongoing to complete the processing.
On performance analysis, 33,989 candidates, representing 51.69 per cent, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, with or without English Language and Mathematics. Meanwhile, 27,727 candidates, representing 42.17 per cent, secured credits and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Of those who achieved five credits including English and Mathematics, 13,416 were males, while 14,311 were females. WAEC noted that the performance reflects an 11.47 per cent decrease compared to 2024 results for the same category.
The Council also revealed that 1,899 candidates, representing 2.89 per cent of those who sat the examination, have had their results withheld over alleged examination malpractice. It stated that investigations are ongoing and affected candidates will be notified after the appropriate committee reaches a decision.
Candidates have been advised to check their results online via the WAEC portal and proceed to access their digital certificates. Applications for hard copies of certificates are to be made through the Council’s online certificate request platform.
WAEC congratulated successful candidates and expressed appreciation to government agencies, security operatives, education ministries and examination officials for their support in ensuring the smooth conduct of the examination.
