Rite Foods Limited has set a 2030 target to eliminate waste from its operations going to landfills, while stepping up efforts to recover and recycle materials as part of its environmental sustainability strategy.
The company disclosed this as it donated 600 protective coveralls and other waste management tools to workers of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) in recognition of their role in maintaining cleaner communities.
The items were presented to OGWAMA management on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Authority’s headquarters in Abeokuta as part of activities marking World Cleanup Day 2026, themed “From Clean Plates to Clean Cities.”
Speaking at the event, Rite Foods’ Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Ekuma Eze, said the initiative reflected the company’s approach to environmental sustainability through practical waste recovery and support for workers involved in environmental protection.
He disclosed that about 30 per cent of the materials used to produce the donated coveralls were sourced from recyclable waste generated from the company’s sausage and beverage packaging.
According to him, materials that could otherwise have ended up in drains or landfills were recovered and transformed into useful products, demonstrating how waste could be converted into resources through recycling.
“We believe that by 2030, we should have achieved zero waste to landfill, meaning that the waste we generate from our operations will not end up in landfills, but will be recycled into other useful products,” Eze said.
He said the company’s sustainability agenda also covers ecological preservation, waste recovery and recycling through initiatives such as Riteonthebeach, which focuses on waste collection and recycling across Lagos and its shoreline communities.
Eze said the donation was also intended to recognise the contribution of waste management workers, whose daily activities are critical to maintaining cleaner and healthier communities.
The company’s manufacturing operations in Ogun State, he added, are supported by modern infrastructure and low-emission technology, while its partnership with OGWAMA reflects the importance of collaboration in addressing environmental challenges.
The initiative was commended by OGWAMA and the Ogun State Ministry of Environment.
The Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor and Managing Director of OGWAMA, Farouk Akintunde Adeniyi, commended Rite Foods for its support, while the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Environment, Dr Kafayat Lawal, acknowledged the company’s longstanding partnership with the Authority and its waste management workforce.
Rite Foods also cited its 2025 initiative in which it donated school bags produced from recycled waste materials to children in schools across Lagos and Ogun states as part of its Children’s Day activities.
