The Ogun State Police Command has issued a stern warning against unlawful assemblies and violent protests in Sagamu, following major breakthroughs recorded under its ongoing security initiative, “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe.”
Speaking through the Police Public Relations Officer at a press briefing held at the Sagamu Divisional Headquarters, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said the Command would not tolerate any actions capable of disrupting public peace and order.
He stressed that while citizens have the right to express grievances, such actions must remain within the bounds of the law, warning that attempts to block roads, attack public institutions, or resort to violence would attract the full weight of the law.
The warning follows an incident on April 7, 2026, when a group of commercial motorcycle operators staged a protest and blocked the Oba Erinwole GRA Road in Sagamu, disrupting movement and public activities.
Police operatives were deployed to disperse the gathering, but the situation escalated as the protesters moved to the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and TRACE Office in the Sotubo area, before further disrupting services at the Sotubo Health Centre.
In response, the Command launched intensified intelligence-led operations, leading to the arrest of 10 principal suspects linked to the disturbance. The suspects have since been charged to court, while further intelligence from the arrests guided subsequent enforcement actions.
The police also confirmed that a coordinated raid conducted on April 13 by the Sagamu Area Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, led to the arrest of 146 additional suspects across identified criminal flashpoints in the area.
The joint operation involved the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun Corps, Ogun State Community Security (So-Safe) Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
According to the Command, all suspects are currently undergoing screening, with those found culpable to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution.
Ojajuni reiterated that security agencies remain fully prepared to deal decisively with criminal elements, assuring residents that there would be no hiding place for individuals intent on undermining peace in Sagamu and its environs.
He also commended the support of the Sagamu Local Government, traditional rulers, and collaborating security agencies, noting that sustained cooperation remains critical to maintaining safety.
The Commissioner of Police urged residents to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines.
