The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, POCACOV of the Lagos State Police Command has joined the global community to commemorate the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, held under the theme “My Identity, My Power: Creating Safer Spaces for the Nigerian Girl Child.”
The event, which took place at Gbaja Girls Senior High School, Surulere, sought to inspire and empower young girls to embrace their identity, find their voice, and build a future free from social vices such as cultism, drug abuse, and gender-based violence.
Speaking at the occasion, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to promoting initiatives that protect and empower girls.
CP Jimoh who was represented by DCP Dayo Akinbisehin (Deputy Commissioner of Police, State CID), said POCACOV continues to engage students and youths across the state with sensitisation programmes aimed at steering them away from crime and moral decay.
Other speakers at the event underscored the importance of creating an environment where the girl child feels safe, valued, and confident to speak out against social ills. They also urged the students to reject negative peer pressure, uphold good moral conduct, and recognise their role as future leaders and change-makers.
The event had in attendance ACP Oluwatoyin Kazeem (Officer-in-Charge, Gender Unit), Chief P.K. Sham (Patron, POCACOV), Mrs. Oyefeso (Principal, Gbaja Girls Senior High School), Dr. Moses Oladimeji (Chairman, POCACOV Lagos State), Ambassador Samuel Eniola (South West Chairman, represented by Chief Mrs. Victoria Omotayo), and Mr. Bassey Henry John (Former Lagos State Chairman, POCACOV).
The programme also enjoyed strong backing from corporate partners, whose support enhanced the reach and impact of the initiative.
