Board Member of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB, Owolabi Jamiu Falana, has commended the “Jako Jollof” initiative, a feeding programme designed to improve the nutritional and health status of pupils across the Odiolowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, LCDA.
This comes as the Chairman of LCDA, Hon. Seyi Jakande, on Friday launched the initiative, which spans 27 schools and one inclusive centre, with the goal of improving pupils’ nutritional and health status. Under the programme, meals will be provided every Friday throughout the academic session, ensuring consistent nourishment for young learners.
Falana, who attended the official launch of the initiative, described it as a groundbreaking and first-of-its-kind programme across the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State. He noted that the initiative goes beyond providing meals to children, serving as a strategic intervention in education, health, and community development.
“This is more than just a feeding initiative, it’s a movement that touches lives, strengthens education, and builds a stronger future for our children,” Falana said.
He explained that the Jako Jollof programme would not only ensure pupils receive adequate nutrition but also motivate regular school attendance, reduce the rate of out-of-school children, and provide employment opportunities for local residents.
Falana applauded the LCDA Chairman for complementing the efforts of the Lagos State Government in the education sector, adding that initiatives like Jako Jollof exemplify responsive and people-centred governance at the grassroots level.
