The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of retired broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, following a forensic and intelligence-led investigation that led to the recovery of the deceased’s stolen vehicle and the identification of the alleged perpetrators.
Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed the development during a press briefing at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
According to the police commissioner, the case was reported on June 21, 2026, after suspicious circumstances were observed at Oyesiku’s residence. Responding detectives discovered the lifeless body of Adetayo inside the security post and Oyesiku’s body in a pool of blood within the main building.
Ojajuni said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 SUV had been stolen, prompting an intensive investigation involving intelligence gathering, technical tracking and forensic analysis.
He disclosed that police operatives recovered the stolen vehicle on June 22 through technical tracking operations. Although the ignition key and registration plates had been removed, investigators found the number plate concealed beneath one of the seats, enabling positive identification of the vehicle.
A major breakthrough, according to the commissioner, came from a handwritten note recovered at the crime scene. The note was subjected to forensic examination, generating investigative leads that eventually led to the identification and arrest of the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, on June 24.
Subsequent operations resulted in the arrest of two alleged accomplices, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.
The police commissioner revealed that Philip allegedly confessed to planning the attack and recruiting the other suspects to participate in the crime.
According to the confession, the suspect claimed he orchestrated the attack due to grievances he held against Oyesiku from the period he worked as a security guard in her employment.
“The suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to teach her a lesson,” Ojajuni said.
Police investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly carried out the attack on June 20. They reportedly overpowered Adetayo and used him to gain access to the residence before attacking Oyesiku. The security guard was later killed.
After the incident, the suspects allegedly fled with the deceased’s vehicle, which was subsequently recovered by police operatives.
Ojajuni disclosed that detectives recovered several exhibits linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen during follow-up searches conducted at locations connected to the suspects.
While noting that the suspects had made useful statements and that substantial evidence had been gathered, the commissioner stressed that investigations were still ongoing and that all suspects remained entitled to due process under the law.
He assured the public that the command would ensure a diligent prosecution of all persons connected to the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The police commissioner also reiterated the command’s commitment to a thorough investigation aimed at establishing all circumstances surrounding the deaths of Oyesiku and Adetayo.
