NYCN Mushin Harps on Empowerment for Sustainable Future at 2025 National Youth Day

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Mushin Branch, has commemorated National Youth Day 2025 with a renewed commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable development.

Held under the theme “Empowering Youth for a Sustainable Future,” the event highlighted the critical role of young people in driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and environmental sustainability within the Mushin community and beyond.

Speaking during the celebration, Comrade Morakinyo Olaolu Sola (Zola), Chairman of the 2025 National Youth Day Committee, said the programme was designed to inspire and equip young people with the skills and mindset required to lead in today’s dynamic economy.

“We have planned a series of impactful programmes aimed not only at celebrating our youth but at preparing them to become agents of change through leadership, creativity, and sustainable enterprise,” he said.

Representing the Permanent Board Member, Hon. Owolabi Jamiu Falana, Mr. Ibrahim Jinadu commended the NYCN Mushin branch for its commitment to youth development, stressing the importance of integrating technology in building sustainable businesses.

“It is essential that our young people leverage technology to promote sustainable businesses. With the right tools, they can create scalable and impactful ventures,” Jinadu said.

The Mushin Local Government Youth Officer also reiterated the council’s continued support for youth-centered initiatives under the administration of Chairman Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe.

In his remarks, Comrade Oredola Olusoji, Chairman of NYCN Mushin, expressed appreciation to the local government leadership, including Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe, Vice Chairman Hon. Karaoke Ishola, HOD Agric, and Hon. Owolabi Jamiu Falana, for their consistent support.

He also acknowledged Hon. Kappo Samuel, SSA to the Governor on Student Union Affairs, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Internal Audit, among other stakeholders and community leaders for their active participation.

The day’s activities featured a breakout session on ‘Youth Leadership in Sustainability’, where speakers explored opportunities for young leaders to champion eco-friendly initiatives. In addition, participants benefitted from skills acquisition and entrepreneurship workshops, aimed at promoting self-reliance and innovation among Mushin youth.

One of the major highlights of the celebration was the economic empowerment initiative, where five Point of Sale (POS) machines were presented to selected young entrepreneurs from the community to support their small business ventures.
