The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Lagos State Council, has unveiled the programme for its 2026 Press Week, with former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, scheduled to deliver the keynote public lecture.
The week long event will run from Monday, September 28 to Sunday, October 4, 2026, with activities bringing together journalists, media professionals, students, industry experts and other stakeholders.
Peterside will speak on the theme, “Politics, Ports and the Public Interest: The Media’s Catalytic Role in Driving Economic Growth,” at the Radio Lagos/Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, LTV Complex, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday, September 30, at 10am.
The lecture is expected to attract maritime experts, media practitioners, journalism students, policymakers and industry stakeholders.
Chairman of the NUJ Lagos State Council, Adeleye Ajayi, said the Press Week remained an opportunity for journalists from different media organisations to interact, strengthen professional relationships and reflect on the journalism profession.
Ajayi said journalists, who regularly report issues affecting society, also needed opportunities to interact and strengthen their professional bonds.
The programme will commence on Monday, September 28, with a Health and Awareness Walk.
Other activities include the Chapel Rendezvous on Thursday, October 1, at the Lagos Television premises from 4pm, followed by a Juma’at Service at the Lagos State Secretariat Mosque, CBD, Alausa, Ikeja, on Friday, October 2, at 1pm.
A Gala and Awards Night will also hold at the BOS Hall, LTV Complex, Agidingbi, Ikeja, on Friday at 4pm.
The Press Week will climax on Sunday, October 4, with a Thanksgiving Service at the Chapel of Christ the Light (Interdenominational), CBD, Alausa, Ikeja, from 10am.
The council urged journalists across Lagos State to participate in the activities, saying the programme would provide opportunities for networking, exchange of ideas and strengthening of professional relationships among media practitioners.
