The Lagos State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime after smashing a notorious car-snatching and armed robbery syndicate that has terrorized motorists across Lagos and neighboring states.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, four members of the gang were arrested following a series of intelligence-led operations carried out between October 15 and 17, 2025. The suspects were apprehended at their hideout in Igando, Lagos.
The arrested suspects were identified as Taiwo Alabi (42), Ogedengbe Lowis (46), Ighodalo Enato Francis (37), and Osaro Eghe Abiodun (34). They reportedly specialized in posing as passengers before robbing unsuspecting drivers of their vehicles at gunpoint.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to multiple robberies in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Edo States.
Police operatives recovered several items from the gang, including a pump-action shotgun, a Beretta pistol, 48 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 46 live cartridges, a cutlass, assorted charms, a Toyota Sienna, two Lexus ES350 sedans, and a Toyota Corolla.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang’s modus operandi involved boarding commercial vehicles and striking once in transit. Their victims included private drivers whose vehicles were later traced across multiple states.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the tactical squads for their efforts and reassured Lagos residents of the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing.
He added that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend other gang members still at large.
“The Command will continue to ensure peace, stability, and intelligence-led policing to rid the State of criminal elements,” CP Jimoh stated.
