The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has issued a clarification regarding a video circulating on social media, which falsely claims that additional victims were rescued alive during the recent fire at the Great Nigeria Insurance, GNI, building.
The fire occurred on Tuesday, December 24, 2025, at the 25-storey GNI House and spread to five adjoining structures. Emergency responders confirmed eight fatalities, including five identified victims and three still unidentified, while thirteen people were successfully rescued.
Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye described the misleading video, which appeared on Thursday, December 25, 2025, as false and not representative of the actual events at the scene.
She noted that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, working alongside other emergency agencies, remains on site to carry out necessary safety operations and support ongoing response efforts.
Adeseye who urged the public to disregard unverified information and to rely only on official statements from the Service, reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and accurate information dissemination.
